The Warmest of Welcomes

Today we visited the Doroba area in Northern Malawi to meet with village communities of women, who have broken free of their shackles of poverty and are doing it for themselves.With the help of a programme of self help pioneered in India, suppported by the German Government and run by the St John of God Services.
In groups of less than twenty, they save tiny amounts of money, lend it to each other to do micro business, pay 20% interest for short periods and have exponential growth in the kitty.
In each of the five areas we visited the welcome was singing and dancing and a truly amazing feeling.
Here, Máire, does one of her million handshakes, with the same warmth of feeling that she does everything else. She has been a real gift to Malawi since she arrived almost a month ago. Her impact will last for generations, with students who never even saw her.
