My Sister Donna and I have recently got back in contact with our siblings from our Fathers second marriage- and it has all been going along swimmingly. The Youngest sister is 6months younger than my eldest son Jack and the kids all adore having so many new aunts and uncles to charm and beguile and try out all their nonsense on!! It has been a purposeful decision on Both mine and Donna parts that we avoided contact with our/their Father Mark. The difficulties between me and him are for another day!
Had a call out of the blue today telling us that our Uncle Peter (Marks brother- whom we had not seen since i was 8 and Donna was 6) was on Portland to see Grandad on his birthday! Hurrah! said we- a chance to catch up with a side of the family that we really know nothing about anymore. I phone my Sister Samantha only to discover that mark is there too. Not one to shy away from an an Opprtunity such as this i aggressively make her put Him On The Phone _demand a promise from him that we WILL NOT ARGUE, hang up and tell Donna we are going and that he is there too. Then completely turn into a ball of jelly and attempt to ready myself with very shaky hands!! Anyway it all went well- an hour later we went our seperate ways leaving the family to go off for a birthday meal and myself and Donna sitting in the park eating a 6 pack of Cornettos with Skye (Donnas daughter) and Alfie blissfully unaware that anything unusual had happened!
