Great Egret
On my way to picking up my doctor to transport him to his office...I pass 2 small ponds. This great egret is always on one pond or the other. She only lets me get 2-3 shots before she flies off. Plus...she settles down on branches that are a long way away for my lens.
Since I assume she lives here, I don't understand how she keeps herself fed. I watch them feed along the shoreline in Florida, or on the fishing docks. I think they can always see what they are trying to catch. This pond is so covered with green "gunk", that I don't think the egret can spot her prey.
I get real close to them down south. Anywhere from 5-6 feet...to about 20 feet. I think they must be more used to people, or they are always looking for hand-outs. A pretty bird from the Heron family. Maybe next week...I'll devise some kind of blind, or just wade in and hide behind that big tree.
