Dimetrodon Bench

This limestone bench, which is in the children's playground area of Bryan Park was carved in 1989 by Bloomington sculptor William Galloway. The bench is an almost life-size representation of a Dimetrodon, a creature that roamed the earth between 280 and 265 million years ago. Apparently, based on the type of teeth it had, Dimetrodons were more closely related to mammals than they were to other reptiles. The fin on its back is thought to have aided the creature in regulating its body temperature. The sculptor took a little artistic license in his design by giving the creature the tail of a Stegosaurus. I love this bench, I think it would be great to have one in a garden surrounded by tropical looking plants.
