Remedy for the Summertime Blues
In search of a remedy for our Summertime blues and boredom we took off mid morning and headed to the zoo. These clouds and gloom are getting to us all as it really has not felt like summer. The boys have been bored without their friends around so it's been a challenge keeping them busy and happy.
Jack decided he wanted to go to the zoo so I put all else aside and after missing the turn off twice (usually I only miss it once..hahaha) we made it there. First stop lunch at the zoo cafe, we were starving. After scarfing down our food we headed to see the animals. Surprisingly the zoo wasn't too busy. There were the usual bus loads of day camp and day care kids being dropped off but other than that it wasn't bad and ended up being quite fun.
We watched an animal show at the outdoor theater area while enjoying two rather large elephant ears. I'm sure one would have been plenty! I laughed because prior to the show starting they announced some of the "Birds of Prey" like to feed off anyones food that is out so we needed to throw it away or cover it. In the middle of the show some late aged teens clearly on a date sat down with their picnic blanket, wooden basket and homemade sandwiches. They tried to look like picnic pro's with all their fancy garb ;) Anyway, they released one of the large birds and it did a bee-line for their food. I thought the bird was going to snatch that sandwhich right out of the boys hand. Fortunately for him the bird quickly swooped the other direction. After the show we saw a few more animals then headed home. We really had a good time. It may not have completely cured us of our weather blues but it did cure us of our boredom for today.
