Dr. J's Day

Walla Walla, WA to Dale, OR

After a somewhat dissatisfying sleep (I hate sleeping in an air-conditioned room), we had a nice greasy spoon breakfast at Tommy's Dutch Lunch. Over coffee we planned out our next destination.

We drove south to Pendleton, OR and then headed south on the 395 - we drove through the Battle Mountain Scenic Corridor and enjoyed to gorgeous scenery through eastern Oregon. We got diesel in Ukiah and had a nice chat with a woman who pumped our gas. She was very sweet and reminded Jer of his grandma.

Not even 10 minutes after we left the station, we saw a ranger getting back into his truck and decided to ask him where the best campsite would be. He was the nicest guy and he just got back from a weekend of camping himself. Told us the campsite he just left and also gave us some firewood he had left over. I was somewhat surprised we found the site - there were lots of small unmarked roads we had to travel down, but we eventually found it.

We camped at the Driftwood Campground. We did some reading while basking in the hot sun, (tried to) nap on the picnic table bench (it was too hot in the tent), took a cooling dip in the river right by our campsite (very cold mountain runoff water), then played dominoes and enjoyed some beer and wine.

We then made dinner (slim pickings at the Dale all-purpose store), and then off to bed.

Here are some pictures from our drive today. For some strange reason I didn't take very many pictures today.
