Sgwarnog: In the Field

By sgwarnog

Soft Rush

A common moorland plant, which is a perennial source of enjoyment through seeing who can extract the longest, most intact piece of white pith from the middle. It seems this childhood pastime once had a more utilitarian purpose, with the pith being soaked in fat and used as wicks for lamps.

It looks particulalry fine in the late evening sunshine.

soft rushes ~ sharp lances ~ full of pith
