Wellingtons
Named after the 1st Duke of Wellington, who designed a pair of leather-hessian boots for his cavalry to wear.
However.
The boots we love and cherish !? nowadays shouldn't really be called Wellingtons because the originals were designed to extend above the knee and offer protection from swords when on a horse and modern day examples usually stop beneath the knee. So maybe calling them gummies or billy-boots, muckboots, gumboots or just wellies is perhaps better.
I just had to snap these boots belonging to the Reception classes at Emma's school.
Highlight of the day? At last getting my aircon back in the car. They had regassed it last week but by the weekend it was belching hot air at my face. Today they topped up the aircon oil and were amazed at how much it drank. In fact they had to send out for more. At least they didn't charge me twice which was nice.
