Day 29 - Santo Domingo de la Calzada

I had no idea until I got to Spain that so many people make the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostella. But this part of Spain is on the camino, and we just kept coming across peregrinos with their walking poles, hats and rucsacks (and often also sore feet).

This alberque (lodgings) is right on the camino itself. The shell is the symbol of Santiago and is often found as a moulding on the route.
