Hilltown Multis
Multi-storey flats in the Hilltown, Dundee.
Went for a casual, Sunday afternoon stroll round the east end of Dundee. Pictured is the Hilltown multi storey flats that tower, somewhat unattractively over the city's landscape. They were built in the 60s and housed around 400 families. Since then, their population declined and high levels of crime within the blocks became a recurring issue. So with some relief and even joy was felt to the news that they would be demolished come this year. July 31st in fact. One local councillor described them as a blight on the Hilltown.
Indeed I agree that they are ugly things - a monstrous by-product of post-war modernist architecture. Supposed to be purely functional and economical, arguably and conclusively fulfilling neither of these aspirations. Well, I hope they build something nice on the site.
Meanwhile, can't wait until the 31st. Demolition countdown underway!
