Wasted journey.
Gaffer wasn't the best of fettles, so I did a solo dash (Yet again) up onto the Beacon.
A total and utter waste of time, except for the exercise.
Some years ago a group of school kids climbed the beacon and, subsequently, complained bitterly that there was no view.
At 5'8" I'm no giant, but I am a teeny bit taller than the kids in question.
I set off, armed with the spring-loaded sticks to aid the knees. You see before you, almost, the best view from the top.
There was a huge(ish) rock, mounted there by the Rotary club in 1995 to indicate no fewer than 42 visible points in the 360˚ vista.
ANOTHER utter waste of time, energy and money.
It is best summed up as trees = 330degrees, view = 30degrees by a stretch of the imagination and standing on the seat provided to admire said trees.
If, ever, you visit Penrith do not waste your time/energy on the walk. Unless you've gone to enjoy the walk.
Mind you, you MAY see a little more in winter DEAD link.

About 6 yrs later.
IF you seek a "View from Penrith beacon you'll get a VAST array of photos of Penrith, several shots of the Beacon "Pike" a shot from a Beacon Hill in Leicestershire and 2-3 shots FROM the Beacon; 2 virtually identical.
Extra - "Stolen". NO idea where/who/when it was stolen.

I've just added one, (18th Feb 2020) the EXIF of which says I took it same day, found whilst "tidying".
Can't see if it's loaded.

"Save changes" and find out.
Yup - it did. I can see Lowther castle and a row of Poplar trees no longer lining the A66.
Must try and hobble up again in summer - now some of the trees have been scalped; as seen in the "Extra" here.

Addendum After Alice 5-12-16 I haven't given it a thought - MAYBE one day.
