Another Wednesday, Another Dark Blue Sky
Another evening walk across the city, this time having been to see an evening of student films at the Filmhouse. A baker's dozen of short films - a mixture of drama and documentary. A curate's egg of a selection, as you'd expect with a collection of student works. Some seemed to drift a little aimlessly and others weren't quite sure of their endings. There were some good ones though. The prize-winning short was the last to be shown. Although it was well made, was it wrong to think it was a little strange that the foreign student who made it had made it in her own language, in her own country, using various members of her family as actors and crew members? I am all for the diversity that Scotland's free education policy has encouraged. In fact the new friends of various nationalities I made on my photography courses were amongst the best things that came from my studies. However, I do think that there is a certain reciprocity required, like reflecting on life here or expressing yourself in English. Certainly by the end of four year's study.
