I get it until I start thinking too hard about it.

"We Receive what We Give".

I don't expect reward back from being good, trying to be kind, and trying to make life happy.

but....

I do expect, that if I did something bad, illegal, or unforgiveable that some wrath would strike me down.

And...

What about the people who give endlessly, but constantly seem to be barraged by a stream of bad luck?

Twice people have been unforgivably bad to us. Twice the worst thing has happened to them.

It's safer just to be nice, and not want for reward, than take the risk and be clobbered.
