Rod Stewart in Hyde Park
It was so hot driving to London. Then silly me wrongly programmed the sat nav to Hyde Park Avenue instead of Park Lane Parking so when we found ourselves following the North Circular and realized we needed to change our route Adam Ant was already on. We also missed Mike and the Mechanics. But never mind. I wasn't sure we would find space to park at Hyde Park but we did at a cost (£25). We were prepared with roll up chairs and picnic but were advised not to take our chairs as they were being confiscated ! So we left those behind. Going through security was annoying; they wanted to take my lens away from me but I managed to keep it. Sir had forgotten that he couldn't take wine so that was confiscated but luckily 3 small bottles of my elderflower fizz did make it in - and were very nice (and fizzy) I'm pleased to say. When we got settled we saw some people had got chairs (!) so we asked them and they said they had no problem bringing them in - it seems that a decision had been taken to allow them because it was so hot they were worried about people fainting. I wish they could also take into account that us older fans just can't stand for hours and sitting on the ground isn't too good either! Anyway Sir tried to go out again to get our chairs but wasn't allowed (!) so went to the Red Cross tent who kindly lent us 2 chairs.
So, we enjoyed Stevie Nicks before briefly visiting the other arena and hearing the Light House Family before zooming back to see Rod Stewart and friends which included Stevie Nicks and Ronnie Wood.
Myself and Kelly, both vertically challenged, were able to get to Sirs height by standing on one chair together and danced whilst carefully balancing camera, drinks and hanging on to our other halfs! Rod did lots of the old favourites and as usual interacted with the audience very well too. A star performer - very generous.
As we had paid for our parking on arrival we had no delays leaving, correctly programmed the sat nav and got back to the hotel in reasonable time.
Just wondering how long it will take for the grass within the concert area to recover as it was very brown - which you can see if you follow the link above.
