Sapphire and Steel

One of the finest days of the year so far and my photo bears no correlation whatsoever with the yarn I am about to spin telling you about our day.

We went to a lido pool near us in Ilkley. There's not many outdoor pools anymore, and in fairness there's not many outdoor swimming pool days, but today was one of them. A very british affair ( not in a cucumber tea and sandwiches and stripey knee length swimming costumes kind of a style but more a " HOW much white flesh is on show !!!! ?? " kind of a way ). In all seriousness, the Britishness is detected in its art deco feel, it was built in the 1930's and the quirky curvy pool and the outbuildings all bear testament to this.

I had my own white flesh on show, I can't remember the last time I have worn a bikini in England outside but wow it was like being on holiday, being able to wander without an anorac was just great.

Photos weren't allowed at the pool, I did try and sneak a few but in all honesty the last thing I wanted was to be arrested by the censorship police and have to spend the night in a cell in nothing but an item from the 2007 Marks and Spencer swim wear range.

It's a shame I couldn't show you the sights, as the pool is set in the heart of Ilkley so you are surrounded by the moors and woodland which is so unusual compared to being abroad. So stunning and so very different.

The air was heavy and dark clouds kept appearing ( I am getting severe mentionitis about these fellows) but they were only transient, the rain held off and it was about 26 degrees all day. Sublime.

Stopped at the river on the way home where we threw pebbles, fed ducks and did all the things you are supposed to do on a Summer's Day. This was the view of the bridge as we were crossing, a fine structure indeed.

I can't say I get excited about steel normally but set against this amazing blue sky it looks magnificent.

Skies, bridges, swimming pools and time out. So much loveliness in one day.
