The (not so) quiet life

It Was A Teenage Wedding

Sports day at the nursery today which meant dropping the Minions off 45 minutes later than usual and then staying at the sports hall to watch them bounce, run, hop and skip their way round various obstacle courses. It's always nice to see the kids enjoying taking part in some games but towards the end you could see the grown ups were flagging just as much as the kids and the nursery staff standing around thinking that maybe six different obstacle courses may have been a couple of steps (or indeed a giant leap) too far and already planning a rethink for next year. Minion number Two sat on my lap for most of the two hour long epic (certain Kenyans could make good inroads into a marathon in the kind of time), dismounting occasionally to shout loud encouragement to her sister.

Minion number One had been drilled by the husband on the importance of winning (forget "it's the taking part" in our house it's "if you're not fast you're last") and wasa bit miffed that the nursery did not announce the winners in rank order. Instead they went down the more diplomatic route and awarded all the competitors woth a rosette and medal. Minion number One has sinve dug out her birthday rosette from two months ago and is now insisiting on wearing all of them everywhere she goes. This is all well and good until someone wishes her a happy birthday and she looks at them as if they were simple and informs them her birthday was in April.

Minion number Two was delighted when her little pal arrived home in the afternoon and the two of them had a nice time trotting about pushing the dolls pram round the Steadings. They are by far the cutest of the Minions but I think this has a lot to do with the fact that their limited vocabulary doesn't allow for too much backchat and they're small stature means that they are easily separated when they do have a little tiff. We have high hopes that we'll be able to marry the two of them off in the future.

Quote of the day: "Joo Joo. Joo Joo." Minion number two aged one, shouting for her favourite friend.
