Finale - predictably Mas que nada - bought rapper H2O back to the stage. He'd been on and off for most of the set and I cannot fathom what SM was thinking about when he decided to big-up the band. It's a ridiculous combination and while it doubtless made him even wealthier, it's awful to listen to ten people delivering the wonderful rhythms and harmonies that typify this music while some jackass yells nursery rhymes over everything. Bah!

I last saw the band in London in 1974 and have said repeatedly that it was the best live show I'd ever seen. This was no different.

The basic theme and sequence was identical, the songs and most of the band had changed. Interestingly, the audience was full of sub-30s who were rocking and samba-ing as hard as the rest of us. Hope I'm still around to see them again in 30 years ;-)

The encore was a rousing version of Antonio Carlos Jobim's Tristeza. Thank goodness; the rhythms and harmonies went round and round in my head all the way through the after midnight, hour-plus drive back to Rooi-Els.

My little D-LUX 3 delivered some fine (generally) sharp images at lengthy exposure speeds and ISO 800. A few shot at ISO 1600 worked well too, despite the noise.
