Jazz and Cape Town's favourite mountain
The annual International jazz festival is on today and tomorrow in Cape Town. This shot was taken as the Festival opened around 17:00. The weather is magnificent, the venue (the city's International Conference Centre - CTICC) ideally suited and the show line-up promises some great music.
As the sun started to dip towards tomorrow, the light picked-up the new office complex on the site, the centre's signage and narrowly missed the edge of the Basil "Manenberg" Coetzee stage. This venue is sited at ground level between the elevated inbound and outbound lanes of the city's main freeway. The local jazz luminary is nicknamed after the suburb in the city where grew-up.
Looming over everything is Table Mountain and it's famous tablecloth
For me, today's bill is headlined by Mike Maineri's Steps Ahead, Darius Brubeck (son of Dave) with South Africa's own Jimmy Dludlu on later. Tomorrow, Lee Ritenour and on top of the show, Sergio Mendes. Expect another Blip from the Festival...
