Spotted Fly
This tiny fly is easily recognised by the spots on its wings. I don't know its proper name. It is just 6mm (about 3/16ths inch) from head to tail. About ten years ago there was a plague of them in the district. They seemed to come out of nowhere. Long-time residents had seen nothing like them before. They were a big problem in kitchens. Fortunately, their numbers dwindled rapidly and now I rarely see one.
Although it remained overcast the clouds lifted above the mountains for a while. There is no more snow on them now than there was on Sunday, just a faint dusting on the tops.
