On top of the world
There is something almost magical about walking in the Cheviots on a day like today. The weather was perfect: it was warm with a light breeze and visibility was excellent. When there are no clouds in the summer if can be hazy, and when the mist comes down.........
Last time I walked up to Windy Gyle it was very misty, so it was a bonus today when we could see the views. I've chosen an image that gives some impression of the distances you can see, and included 2 walkers for perspective.
Today's walk was part of the Rothbury Walking Festival. After 11 miles we went for tea in the tearoom near the Wedderburn car park (5 miles up the valley from Alwinton). I can recommend the tea room and the walking area, but don't venture there unless you are well equipped. The geography can be a bit disorientating and the weather can change in an instant.
