Homage
I was immensely touched by the bravery of the Tibetan monks yesterday - in the way they broke through the silence they are imprisoned in.
In Taoist philosophy a cauldron (ting) can be seen to symbolize refined civilization and its appropriate spiritual nourishment; this one is made not in China but in Africa - a suggestion of Darfur.
Its content - the nourishment - is completely hidden/censored.
The Chinese character is that of fire, an essential ingredient along with wood, in the creation of said nourishment.
I suspect fire takes on an aspect other than spiritual in Tibet at the moment.
The last element is something we all have: a piece of absurdly cheap pottery, the product of the rampant globalization that makes it all too necessary for our rulers to look away from places like Tibet, Darfur ...
Free Tibet!
(Heavily contrived image, I know, but I needed to say something!)
