Buddha

This is my favourite Buddha in Phnom Penh. He sits at the top of Wat Phnom.Wat Phnom is the centre of Phnom Penh and is supposed to be where Phnom Penh started. There are several stories about how this happened but most people claim that a widow found some sacred statues and put them on a hill to keep them safe. People came to worship the statues and Phnom Penh developed from there. It's a lovely temple and many people visit to pray and leave offerings of food and money.Buddhism seems like a very nice religion to me. It's very peaceful. The main idea seems to be that you try very hard to be nice and good in this life but if you don't make too great a job of it you get a chance to improve things in the next life.So many religions seem to have terrifying consequences if you don't succeed first time round! The thing I like most about this Buddha is that he wears a modern pair of glasses and also that the area that he sits in is surrounded by flashing neon lights giving a very festive feel.
