Moorhen Baby

Unexpected visit to The Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh after passing nearby. Headed for the pond with leftover sandwiches from Tuesday at Portobello, as well a some lettuce in case there were swans.

No swans, but a heron flew onto a tree branch and there were flocks of woodpigeons, several mallards, joined by a female with 3 ducklings, a moorhen hiding amongst the water lily leaves and 2 baby moorhens staying out of the way of the ducks. The little ones were even wary of the baby ducklings.

This little one stayed on his lily pad out of harms way.
