The fig tree.

When we bought our house, five years ago, there was a fully flourishing fig tree in the garden. We ate figs fresh from the tree, they were delicious. We only saw the house once a year for the next couple of years, but within 2 years the tree was dead. My husband suspected sabotage(!), I was less suspicious and believed it had just died. However, it left behind a new shoot that over the last couple of years has started to look more like a tree. Until this year there were no figs on it, but last week I spotted one or two sprouting out. They are an interesting fruit as they do not start life as a flower. I hope they become good enough to eat!
