Why?

This is my airing cupboard, where I keep towels and bedding and which contains the bolier for my hot water and central heating. There is not much room in there for anything else, let alone anyONE, so why, oh why, did the builders feel the need to put a handle on the inside of the cupboard door?

Perhaps I should try shutting a very little person in there, just to see if they can actually get out by using the aforementioned handle???!
