Weston Super Mare

Today we were at a loss for something to do. We decided we wanted to go somewhere in the car, but couldn't think were... then I was struck by inspiration (or desperation). Whenever we are by the water, looking out over the Bristol Chanel we are amused at how you can see England from Wales. Weston Super Mare is about 10 miles across the Bristol Chanel (don't double check my geography) but a much longer drive. Well... today we drove it to see what the view was from the other side. And here you have it... Cardiff from Weston Super Mare's Grand Pier. You can clearly see the Millennium Centre & Millennium Stadium :-D

I cropped out some of the water (there was loads of it) and auto-adjusted the colour and contrast, and this is what I got. Quite pleased that it came out so recognisable!

There is another photo which has Penarth Pier in it... that's the pic I really wanted, but unfortunately it wasn't as clear :(

We had fish & chips in the Tiffany Tea Room bitty right at the end of the pier. It was fairly rank. The fish tasted of nothing, no mater how much salt, pepper & vinegar I added. The chips were crispy, as I like them but not particularly tasty. The peas, to be fair, were really nice. Chuffing expensive too :(

However, money was saved... remember a while back I blipped the cover of Bruce Springsteen, Born to Run? Well The Works have a book of the photo's taken for the album art work. I've been meaning to buy it for ages, but it's over-sized and I never fancied carrying it around Cardiff. Popped into the one in WSM today, and they had it. Reduced from a tenner down to a fiver... and then down again to £2.99. Happy as Larry, whoever he is.

It was definitely a 'diet out the window' day though, as even after the fish & chips it was back home, then over to visit Trudian for Chinese. Some Mario Kart & good banter.

A good day :-D

~~Update~~

Two more noteworthy things: It's 107 years today since the Grand Pier was first opened. And a year today since I got my first DSLR, the lovely White Pentax k-x that I'm still using and loving :-D A no-less historic day!
