A magical circle?

Is it the romantic in me that thinks this circle of stones is part of a children's game? This is just the sort of space - rough ground between the buildings, awaiting development - that provides a bit of space for childhood imagination. The adult home-owner can imagine how annoying it is for the people that live across the road to have this waste ground just left there and obviously if the sorts of things that kids get up to start to get anti-social, like setting fire to things that get out of control or acts of vandalism, then it isn't acceptable. But if it's just a bit of rough ground that becomes another world for an afternoon, away from adults, then is it that bad? When I was a kid there was a field around the small estate of houses we lived in. It was on the way to the shops, and there was a main path, but at the height of summer there were so many other paths through the long grass, and you could make secret little dens in the grass by flattening it down. It was like you were an explorer in the heart of Africa, or on the American Prairie. It didn't last long as the estate extended and the field filled up with other houses. The walk to the shops was along ordinary streets then, and not through a jungle. Progress or not?
