Summer Robin
Erithacus rubicula
I have heard people say as a fact that robins are a winter visitor and not to be seen in the summer months. They're always here, just a wee bit more wary.
I went up to the Water of Leith Visitor Centre today, trying to get a better blackcap photo (no good; but I did get a blurry one of a female, and also a blurry one of a treecreper feeding its fledgling) The sun, even when it did come out, was not strong enough to penetrate the leaves in full spread. Had to really whack up the ISO to get anything.
We had an early tea and went up to the Union Gallery on Broughton Street to see Stewart Bremner's paintings and others. Definitely the most interesting ones there, some other good stuff, too. I would encourage anyone to go along to see the exhibition. (Some of the art is not to my taste, though...OK, not to be mealy-mouthed, it's awful, bowfin'!)
We got there to see that Scobes and La Famille Mac Tree were already in attendance. After a while we repaired to a nearby hostelry and were subsequently joined by Stewart B, MAiT (international Person of Mystery) and Magpie.
Discussion was wide-ranging: extreme weather events, astronomy and Newtonian reflecting telescopes, the fact that Edinburgh is actually just a village of 300-odd people, the Open University, ginger beavers and Scobes' hopelessly middle-class lifestyle.
A top night all round :-)
