Turning tide

We abandoned work for a good old fashioned nature walk this morning and walked in a (fairly) orderly crocodile up the back road - the excitement was immense. The task was to find as many different species of wild flowers as possible - we were allowed to pick only if there were lots of them and in no circumstance to pull anything up!! We then returned, made posters and identified what we'd found. I reckon we found between 30 and 40 different species from comfrey and foxgloves, to little speedwell and groundsel, honeysuckle and dog rose, to pennywort and clovers. Silage has been mostly gathered in and the fields we passed freshly manured. True to their farming backgrounds, most of the children commented on the lovely smell - and they weren't being ironic.

A much nicer day than forecast and the sun is now seriously shining! A quick walk down to the beach to clear the head and slough off school. A very low tide and wonderful colours. The water is so clear. And the weekend starts here :)
