White Horses

Wild waves today, and lots of them! The seas were spectacular, the ferries were cancelled and everything was getting blown about.

Working in a portacabin is not a barrel of laughs when there are storm force winds blowing! It was rocking and rolling, and the noise of the hail stones and sleet hitting the walls and bouncing off the roof was incredible. I spent all day plugged into a dictaphone, transcribing the oral surgery consultant's letters, and even with headphones on I could hear it! The consultant comes up from Aberdeen regularly, which saves all his patients having to travel south. We are actually very lucky here, lots of specialists make routine trips up to the North Isles.

At least these longer days mean that when I do get home, it is still light enough to take Ollie for a good run. He gets himself into a real frenzy as I put on all my layers, boots and get my camera, and can hardly wait to get out into the field. This is taken from the cliff top at the bottom of the field - you have no idea how frozen my hands were - even in cosy gloves! A hazard of blipping in fierce weather - it's a strange obsession!
