Circles and Symmetry...

Another shot from within the old part of the hospital building I work in!!! Also outside my ward!! I took a blip of the other stairwell near the ward on 12/05/11, and this is circular stairwell Number 2....the main old building stairwell!!! I have to say, that I also love this....and am beginning to realise why I always defend the part of the hospital I work in!!! Folk often ask would I not prefer the newer section, and I've always said no!!! Even with our big high ceilings and draughty windows!!!

I reckon now it's because of some of the stunning architecture!! This well reaches 6 levels, and is glass, rather than iron railing!! Over the years different coloured glass sections have randomly been installed on some levels, so some of the symmetry is lost!! But it's still really stunning!! And adds something really!!!!

Yeah for old buildings...they remind folk of all the history therein...and in a hospital that's always a great thing!!! So much change, growth, advancement, good work!!! Love it!!!!

EDIT.....for those interested...

Glasgow Royal Infirmary...

Designed by Robert and James Adam, the original Royal Infirmary building was opened in December 1794. The infirmary was built beside Glasgow Cathedral on land that held the ruins of the Bishop's Castle, which dated from at least the 13th century but had been allowed to fall into disrepair. A Royal Charter was obtained in 1791, that granted the Crown-owned land to the hospital. The original Adams building had five floors (one underground) holding eight wards (giving the hospital just over a hundred beds) and a circular operating room on the fourth floor with a glazed dome ceiling.

PS...yesterday I was dubious about my stepping out into the more creative blipping world, and asked for comments!!! I was stunned and so reassured that people were so supportive and affirming!! Thankyou so much!!! Trying something new is always a bit daunting!!
The shot hit the spotlight page too....so DOUBLE thanks!!! :-))))
I think I'll risk that dabbling....even if sometimes it does go a bit pearshaped!!
