Stag Beetle

I've been hoping to spot one of these on my lunchtime walks all week. This male was wandering across a small footpath that runs between some houses. I haven't seen any flying in my garden yet but tonight looks as if it will be a still warm night so I am hopeful.

I'm very lucky to live in an area where you still see stag beetles. In previous years I've helped a PhD student by sending her stag beetle bodies and hanging a trap in my garden to help monitor populations. The PTES stag beetle survey is running again this year so I'll be logging this one later.

Busy day at work. More website coding and an introductory meeting with our new CEO. Looking forward to the weekend.
