Along the Canal

Took a stroll along the canal at Longcroft this afternoon. Nice in the sun but when oh when are we going to get shot of this cold wind. I find the ancient technology very interesting and curiously theraputic - the steady sound of the water pouring over the lock gates is so soothing.
The towpath seems better used than the canal though. We seldom see any boats but the towpath hosts fishermen (coarse - sometimes very), cyclists, joggers, horse-riders and, naturally, dog walkers.
This immediate area is a curious transport node. The Glasgow - Edinburgh railway parallels the canal; the A80 crosses it only a couple of hundred yards along and also close by is Cumbernauld airfield. Trains, planes, automobiles- and canal boats!
