Empty Nest Syndrome...
Last autumn, as the leaves all fell to the ground, I was thrilled to find a tiny nest hanging in a tree not too far from the driveway. Even better yet, the nest was not too high up on the tree branch. I dreamed of peeking in on wee birds in the spring.
I was unsure if the nest was that of a Hummingbird or perhaps a Wren. As I looked at the size, I kind of ventured to guess the later. No problem, it would be cool to watch ANY birds grow. And so, I waited. And waited.
In the cold of winter when the snow came, filling the nest to capacity and beyond, I came up with the most clever idea! I took a toothpick, made a tiny sign, glued it to the toothpick and stuck it in the snowy nest and photographed it. The sign read, "For Wrent".
My little sign blew out in the wintry winds, and I had somewhat forgotten about it. Today, I remembered the nest and anxiously approached it. Slowly and steadily, I reached up and pulled down gently. I was so excited, I could hardly contain myself....
Camera poised and ready to fire, sheer disappointment filled my soul as I discovered an empty nest.....
