Doorstop
I don't spend much time worrying over things I can't do, butttttt.....
There are 2 things that I can't do that I wish I could.
1. SING ! Take your pick... I wish I could sing like Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Harry Connick Jr., Sting, or Colonel Von Trapp from The Sound of Music. I faked my way through 4 years of high school choir, only because it was 4 easy credits. Now I am really losing whatever little bit of voice that I once had.
2. DRAW ! Small children laugh at my stick figures. I think artists have the ability to see in 3-D, and to be able to transfer that image to canvas. Of the two, I sometimes wonder if you could learn to draw, but have really never tried to pursue it.
I can take a picture, tape it to a piece of wood, and using a piece of blue tracing paper...put the image on the wood. I then wood-burn it, paint it, stain it, and then put a finish on it. I see it as a door stopper at a cowboys, or a wanne-be cowboys house.
My neighbor 2 doors down is quite a wood carver. He gets huge pieces of wood up to 6 feet tall, and then takes the saws to it. He makes vikings and fairyland creatures...some of which are quite scary-looking. The 2-footer he put out in our little preserve frightens my chihauhau.
He lops off big chunks of wood in his carving, and then brings the chunks back to our neighborhood fire pit. I took this chunk from the pile, and now it is a couple of horsies. My favorite part of the process is putting on the stain, and watching the different "flavors" of the wood come out. I better stop there...it almost sounds like something an "artist" might say. ( I can't bring myself to use lol, so I'll use ASCBNAL ( a small chuckle, but not a laugh).
