Roby cottages
I didn't check the camera for colour or B&W so got a shock when I got home to find the pics in Black and white.
The painted flowers above the doorway would have stood out as quite colourful.
The Medieval cottages (there are two) are whats left of Roby village built at the cross roads of Station RD (there is a railway) and Carr lane.
The original Norse settlement appears in the Doomsday book as Rabil which means Boundary farm.
One of the cottages (I don't know which) was a Toll Bar Cottage at the time of 1726.
When I married and moved to Roby at the end of 1969 the end house which can just be seen was a Green Grocers!
I lived not very far from here; I could walk up to the other side of the Roby Station and under the railway and up station Rd.
Rather cold here and dull hope your having better; cheers Penny.
