Our house
Today I finally met our closest neighbour.
I knew his parents had lived in our house at some point but I didn't know it had been in his family for so long.
It turns out it was his great grandfather who built the house in the 1860's. Or actually he moved it here from a village nearby. When he bought this piece of land it was still forest.
As a little boy my neighbour visited his grandparents here and eventually his parents took over and he got the bedroom upstairs.
He told me the whole story of the house and he showed me these pictures:
the one to the left is the house seen from the garden, as it was in 1938 (framed and coloured by hand later). As you can see the entire garden was a potato field. To the right, the houses from the front in the 1950's. By then they had started to prepare the smaller house for him to move in there. Earlier it had been a barn, keeping animals.
Eventually when he got married, he built a bigger house behind his parents which is where he still lives today. He sold this property some twenty years ago.
We went inside the house aswell and he told lots of things about it.
I'm so happy to have met him, he's the best source of information I could have dreamed of!
Lovely, isn't it?
