Robert the Bruce unveiled
A new statue of King Robert the Bruce was being unveiled in Aberdeen today, so I took an early lunch and nipped down to Marischal College to see the ceremony. The statue looks great - and I'm sure there will be blips of it aplenty over the days, weeks and years to come - so I've opted for a slightly different shot.
Here we see the civic procession walking from the Town House to the statue, led by a bagpiper.
Now I went to see the Turra Coo statue unveiled last year and she was actually dramatically under wraps until the ribbon was cut, but today it was just a case of removing a Saltire to reveal the "Robert the Bruce" inscription on the plinth.
Anyone inclined to complain that the £120,000 from the Aberdeen Common Good Fund (set up be Robert the Bruce) could have been spent on something else, should bear in mind that in 2010/11 £59,746 from the Common Good Fund was budgeted to be spent on the upkeep of the civic car !
The car is for the Lord Provost, that's him in the robes behind the guy carrying the town mace. Nice to see that he walked today :-)
