Same place, different view
Dunbar from Tyninghame. I set out for a quick spin and got back 5 hours later, because the day got the better of me and diversion by diversion I ended up with some great new views of familiar places and things. From the left, Barns Ness lighthouse and the cliffs around St Abbs Head, Dunbar from swimming pool to parish church, Belhaven and West Barns with the cement factory behind, and Doon Hill on the right. In the foreground, the North Sea at the mouth of Tyninghame Bay. Might be worth a look at my little corner of the globe LARGE(er).
I headed for the tern nesting area again (on the far right of the photo, still no terns but several miserable grumpy bird watchers with enormous telescopes and little clipped beards), then I decided to get over to the other shore of the bay - not an easy journey. The opposite shore is about 50 yards away in places, but it's several miles round by road where the nearest bridge crosses the Tyne. There's a footbridge in the Tyninghame estate, but it's been padlocked for decades. Anyway, I decided to go and have a go look. After a bit of an Indiana Jones experience (rickety planks, shaky ironwork, rusty spikes), I got over and found trails I didn't know were there, great fun on the bike.
I ended up in East Linton after taking the Tyninghame "main" road out and taking a route through Binning Wood, Smeaton and joining the John Muir Way into the village. Bikes are good. What a beautiful day!
Pictures of birds, flowers, landscapes and seascapes on Flickr. I really like the Bass Rock with the exploding waves in front, but they narrowly lost to this one. I regularly take a shot of Dunbar from the south shore and do nothing with it, and this one from the opposite shore shows the cliffs and who knows when I'll be back there? So, this is the blip.
