A Close Shave

I'm having a bit of an industrious phase this weekend - and it feels good. This morning I finally sorted out the under-stairs cupboard door that needed a bit shaving off its bottom to stop it scraping across the carpet. It's been annoying me ever since the carpet was fitted last summer (god, that's nearly a year!) because it has meant that I've had to pull quite hard to get the door open, and push quite hard to get it shut. I bought a plane-type tool the other month, and today I actually got my act together to take the door off its hinges, cart it out into the garden, and shave a bit off the bottom. It's surprising how much shaving you have to do to make a difference, but I now have a door that swings to and fro without any hindrance. I just have to remember that I don't need to yank it open any more.

This afternoon I was out in the garden painting the fences. Well, fence - I only managed to get two panels done because I am trying to cover a dark green fence with a fairly light orangey brown preservative, and its needing quite a few coats to get anywhere near covering the green. Unfortunately, I don't like the colour I've bought - too orangey - so I will have to go over it again with a darker reddy brown, but at least the hard work of covering up the green will be done. I'm sort of wishing I'd never started though...
