Return to the Nebbit Stane

We were in the depths of winter the last time I posted a view of the Nebbit Stane - that idiosyncratic boulder (and informal river depth gauge) that stands in the River Don opposite Paradise Wood, where the river runs beside the Lord's Throat Road in the shadow of Bennachie.

But with all this warm, dry weather recently, I was hoping to capture it with the river at its lowest level, showing as much of the stone as possible. But the lighting conditions in this shaded part of the glen were never ideal, and with the rain of the last couple of days I thought I'd missed my chance.

I needn't have worried: this morning the light was pretty good, and the water level still low. You can even see the marks around the stone showing where the water level has been at different times during the year.
