Cute Wee Pony
Looks sweet doesn't he? But don't be fooled by appearances, this little chap has a finely honed hunting instinct, get caught by him and you may well not survive.
Today we were off Ring Ouzel hunting again, this time just into Bedfordshire at Blows Down (yes really) in Dunstable. When we arrived we had a good look round without any success, then Mrs L decided to move along a little, but found her way blocked by this wee pony, which was somehow loose outside his field. She then headed off in the opposite direction while I managed to slip past the pony and settled down for a good search round.
About twenty minutes later Mrs L returned, having survived a horrendous ordeal at the hands of this cute wee pony. She'd been looking for me, but hadn't seen that I'd moved all of five metres. It was at this point that the pony struck. Realising Mrs L was now alone and vulnerable it started stalking her. Mrs L did her best to shake it off, but its hunting instinct had kicked in and as it started to move in for the kill Mrs L got behind a tree. The pony then made its move in one direction which allowed Mrs L to head off in the other direction towards the safety of the car.
Obviously once she was reunited with me the pony resumed its normal innocent behaviour, but be warned, if you ever find yourself at Blows Down, don't get cornered by any cute looking ponies, they're not what they might seem to be.
To see if there was a happy ending to the Ring Ouzel hunt you'll need to check out RCB's Blip.
Came back with lots of photos to sort out yesterday, and blipping slipped again so there's my back-blipped Speckled Wood and RCB's Hobby to catch up on.
