Das Alte Land

So, recently in the Grauniad there was an article about Germany saying that it wasn't all beer and pretzels. Pfft! For me, beer and pretzels is what it's all about. Oh, and the friendly people, interesting architecture, really nice cheese, bacon with everything etc...

Additionally, the article said that if you're in or around Hamburg in the springtime you ought to go to Das Alte Land to see the blossom in full bloom. So we went, because we like to do as we're told. There is mile upon mile of old-fashioned farm-houses and fruit trees, both cherry and apple. And yes, the blossom was indeed blooming. And yes, it's difficult using the right word for blooms, blooming, blossom and petals with Germans, when they seem to have just one word to cover everything!
