Ticking Away the Moments

Hey Joe

Tense game today for Worcester Warriors - all or nothing semi-final in the (ridiculous) Championship play-offs, and they nearly blew it.

I've got no nails left and watched most of the 2nd half through my fingers as I couldn't bear to see all the mistakes while the clock ticked away. We were behind all game until we finally got a try in the 78th minute which brought the score to 21-22 - so the conversion was vital.

My blip is of our reserve kicker, Joe Carlisle, practising his kicks before the game. He was on the bench, then came on in the last 10 minutes or so. Joe has come up through the Warriors academy and it's fair to say that he polarises the fans a bit - lots of them think he isn't good enough, but many more think he is a genius in the making. We are fans, having seen him in his debut for the first team a few years ago, getting a fantastic penalty from well behind the half-way line and watched his position kicking and his tackling improve. He has been charged down a few times though and 10 is a position where all your mistakes are clear for everyone to see.

But no mistake from Joe today, he kicked the conversion under what must have been immense pressure as if he'd missed, we would have lost the game and our chance of going back up to the premiership. So the final score was 23-22 and Worcester live to play again - I hope the 2-leg final isn't as tense as this as I'm not sure my nerves can stand it.

Today is the start of our Musical May challenge, laid down by Life of Pontycyclops - details are here.

You all know the song I'm sure, might be an oldie but it's a classic...
