Goodbye Old Friend
Very sad as I've finally had to accept that this beautiful Eucalyptus tree in our garden has died. I've suspected for a few weeks now, when spring didn't bring it's usual flush, and the remarkably hardy leaves which had survived the harshest of Scottish snow and winter curled up and dropped, one by one.
Can't tell you how bereft I feel - I just loved this tree. It brought such joy, watching the branches sway and the leaves ripple in wind and rain. It has been amazing - especially as it was advertised as "miniature" when I bought it ten years ago, and has reached a glorious 30 feet in that time.
Now I have to sort out getting it chopped down and dug out. I'm toying with trying to get something done with the wood for the garden. We shall see.
Is it strange to feel grief for a tree? I don't think so. As the saying goes, I've never met a tree I didn't like...
