Lochside Reeds
Our holiday cottage stands at one end of a little stone bridge over a stream that runs through the garden and feeds into the south end of Loch Awe In Argyll.
It is absolutely idyllic, just the sound of rippling water and birdsong to breaking a silence that is never attained in the middle of a city.
The cottage has a wood burning stove which allows me to re discover my long lost art of making these tight rolled up paper scrolls which we used in the dark ages to start a coal fire.
Attending to the fire brings out the caveman and woman in us. There's something intrinsically basic in having a good fire blazing up the chimney.
We needed the fire today when yesterday's Edinburgh drizzle and chill followed us to Ford today.
We had dressed for a cycle run, but decided against it when we saw the rain, and instead went for a bowl of soup at the Kilmartin Museum and a soggy walk on a path round Loch Ederline opposite the cottage.
Now at 6pm it is looking brighter, but it's too late, we are ensconced in front of the fire with G&T's and the Sunday papers.
The forecast for tomorrow is much drier and sunnier.
