100 years of Whisky

Pleased to have reached 100 blips today and would like to say thank you to everyone for being so welcoming and encouraging. I have really enjoyed blipping and reading comments on mine and others' journals. The journals are all so interesting as are the images.

I thought I'd celebrate the 100 blips with a different kind of 100 - 100 years of whisky. Large should be worth a look to see the ages of the whisky on the bottles. I know Kaybee will be interested as he is a whisky connoiseur .

John has a lot of excellent whiskies which he has been given as presents or won in raffles , tombolas etc. I had quite a task sorting out his whisky bottes to find a set which added to exactly 100 years ; eventually got the combination right. The oldest whisky is an 18 year old Tamdhu Highland Single Malt and the youngest is his precious Wembley Whisky which is 3 years old. It was specially blended to celebrate Scotland winning against the World Cup holders , England who, just in case someone out there doesn't know, won the Cup in 1966. So does that make Scotland world beaters if we won 3-2 in 1967 at Wembley ? ( joking off course, in our dreams as they say )The label on the back has the team set out as on a football pitch.

Anyway there 's a lovely story to John's Wembley bottle. Apparently the whisky was put in the cask to mature for 3 years immediately after the full time whistle on the 15th April 1967. In the year 2000 the bottles were sold and a leading Scottish Sunday paper had an article about this with some bottles available for purchase , I believe the rest had all been sold. Readers were invited to make their case for the chance to purchase one.I made a good case for one bottle and was able to purchase one of these specials for our aniversary which coincided with the date on the bottle, not to mention off course the fact that we were there and have been on many occasions including the last ever game played there between England and Scotland. I keep telling John we should open it every year on our anniversary for a celebration drink, but it remains in pristine condition after all these years, 41 years after it was bottled.

I suppose I will celebrate the 100 blips with a brandy!
PS
Horror of horrors , neither of us are whisky fans , John doesn't drink spirits at all , just beer now and again.
