another fabulous day ...

... in and around Dresden.

In the morning we went to Meissen where we visited the world famous porcelain manufactory and took a tour through the workshop. It was quite incredible to see how much work and love for detail goes into every single piece, even if it's just a cup. Everything is handmade, even the tiniest piece of decoration. They told us that it takes 3 days to produce a tea cup decorated with tiny flowers and about 5 days for a smallish statue. I am not sure I like all their things as some just seems way to much but if you do look closely at their highly decorated vases knowing that it is all handmade ... you can't help but appreciate this craftsmanship.

We then continued to a vineyard where we had lunch (fresh asparagus) accompanied by some of their own white wine. It was lovely sitting in their garden among huge oak trees enjoying the weather, the food as well as wine!

Afterwards we drove back to Dresden where we spent the rest of the afternoon in the city's biggest park. In the evening we had dinner at another "biergarten" which was situated right by the river. I must say that I have really learned to love beer gardens ... something about them being so down to earth and relaxing. Definitely one of the perks of living in Germany during the summer ;)
