Port Ramsay Telephone Box, Isle of Lismore
The Isle of Lismore is situated in Loch Linnhe, seven miles by ferry from Oban. With a population of just 180 I wonder how many people use the phone box at Port Ramsay?
The island got electricity in 1970 and nowadays benefits from an upgraded BT exchange for broadband. My Dad gets faster broadband up here in the islands than I get ten miles from Edinburgh! Despite this there are still some homes on the Island without phonelines! Perhaps they and those with no mobile phone signal use the red phone box!
As an aside, my sister is concerned her nine week old daughter will grow up not knowing what a phone box is and how to reverse call charges! Are phone boxes a thing of the past?
