River scene
I wasn't going to bother with this picture as it isn't terribly good but changed my mind as it does show such a Cambodian scene! The water level is really low at the moment as it's the very end of the dry season. There has been no rain to speak of since September though we have started to have the odd (heavy) shower . Soon there will be a downpour for at least 2 hours every day and the landscape changes completely. In this picture the men are working on the crops they have grown along the river banks. This land is presumably very fertile and damp and wonderful vegetables are grown along river banks like this all over Cambodia. Within a few weeks of the rainy season starting again the water levels rise dramatically and the banks will be covered with water. There is a lady in the water. She has just finished washing lots of clothes and herself in the river and is now off for a little swim. The water is not clean by any stretch of the imagination but the rivers in Cambodia really are rivers of life and are used by almost everybody for something.
